My neighbors made sausage I guess and decided to hang it next to their laundry. Honestly it scared me when I walked out of my door and saw it. Makes me never want to eat sausage again and I LOVE sausage!
Just came across your blog when searching for the keyword Shenzhen. A Chinese friend of mine once made something similar, dried meat. I think she just added a few spices and let it hang in the sun for a few days. She then used it for cooking. This way, it won’t go bad as easily and imo it did taste great (a bit different from homemade sausages, but your picture reminded me of it).
